Ana is a multi-award-winning film director born and raised in Lisbon, Portugal.

Working professionally as an actor and graduating on Painting at the Fine Arts Faculty of the University of Lisbon felt not enough to her. Eager to move further and to learn more, she sold everything to move to London to live and to study filmmaking, where she completed her Master's degree at London Film School.

Her studies in art led her to better understand cinema as the most complete means of expression. Her first attempt towards that direction had been through video installation and photography.

Along her path she directed fiction films, documentaries, music videos and art installations.

Her debut fiction feature, LISTEN, premiered in multiple international film festivals across the globe.

LISTEN first premiered in Venice, on the 77th Venice International Film Festival, where it won the Lion of the Future Prize, the Special Orizzonti Jury Prize, the ‘Sorriso Diverso Award’ for Best Foreign Film with social impact, as well as the Independent critics’ award for Best Film: Bisato d’oro award of the 77th competition.

LISTEN has been at the main competition of leading festivals in the world and it has been highly nominated and awarded nationally (Portugal) and internationally.

Winning 5 Portuguese Film Academy Awards for Best Film, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Script and Best Supporting Actress, and more, such as a Portuguese Golden Globe for best leading actress (Lúcia Moniz) and Best Performance at Raindance Film Festival.

Ana’s work is a detailed reflection of her deep understanding on acting and people, combined with her drive to tell stories, relevant stories in the verge of emotion always with a sense of a social realism's soul in her story world. Her work has been referred as ‘Sparkling Cinema’, ‘highly topical and strongly raising the problem of those who actually pay for the crisis, the ones who are left alone to deal with it.’

Her interests cross many fields which leads to a very complete immersive vision.

Acting, photography, scenography, interior design, painting, cinema, stage and drawing. Those are her roots and natural assets of her work.

She is working on her next feature film WINGS deeply focused on social impact and human rights, a fiction film shot in Portugal and in Ukraine. Ana will afterwards be dedicated to a feature documentary shot in Japan in the last months of the year.
